Sustainable Packaging
Our sustainable packaging includes recyclable glass bottles and jars, biodegradable bamboo lids and spoons, boxes printed with soy inks on FSC certified paper, and the use of sugarcane bioresin tubes sourced from environmentally responsible farms. Free of any petroleum ingredients, these tubes have a dramatically lower carbon footprint tied to their production. We love that they can be recycled alongside #4 plastics or sent to TerraCycle using our free, zero-waste recycling program!
TerraCycle
We have an amazing partnership with TerraCycle for all of our plastic packaging (which even includes the safety seals around the bottles and sample packets!). Simply sign up through TerraCycle to receive a free, zero-waste, pre-paid envelope and then fill it with your empty, cleaned out Mad Hippie plastic packaging (bottles, pumps, plastic seals, sprayers, and caps) and drop in the nearest USPS mailbox!
Clean & Safe Ingredients
When it comes to our core - our products - we are constantly making minor improvements and modifications to ensure that they are as safe and as effective as possible. We carefully source our bulk natural ingredients to ensure that they are vegan, cruelty-free, and GMO-free. In place of parabens, petrochemicals, and other unnecessary additives, we pack our formulas full of peptides, antioxidants, vitamins, and lots of skin nourishing ingredients. We are proudly certified by both Leaping Bunny and PETA and receive super safe ratings for our products via the websites Think Dirty and EWG Skin Deep.
Raising Awareness/Support for the Environment
Raising awareness and support for social causes and the environment is integral to our foundation. We donate one dollar of every web sale to different conservation efforts throughout the year. Save the Elephants, Meals on Wheels, and the NRDC are recent recipients. Alongside websale donations, we contribute to dozens of other organizations including student-run campus groups, animal sanctuaries, schools, and groups working to provide essential services to underprivileged communities.
Refillable Vitamin C Serum
Our award-winning Vitamin C Serum is now available as a refillable option! Simply order online through our website to receive your refillable Vitamin C Serum + a free, recyclable return envelope. Once you've emptied your bottles, place them in the envelope and drop them in any USPS mailbox. We clean, sanitize, and refill the bottles to be used again and again!
Warehouse/HQ Sustainability Committee
In 2021, we created a Sustainability Committee at our warehouse made up of many eco-conscious team members. This valuable team critically assesses and improves our company's processes and procedures in order to reduce our environmental impact. Accomplishments include implementing a composting program, joining Ridwell, and coordinating a trash cleanup along the waterfront where our HQ is located.
